Closest thing to Espresso with Prismo
This recipe is the closest I’ve come to creating a cup that looks and tastes like espresso—and it even has crema!
Using a Prismo, two wet paper filters, dark roast coffee, and a slightly coarser espresso grind (8 clicks on the Timemore C3), this method delivers a bold and rich flavour. Brewed with boiling water, the coffee isn’t very hot, so it’s best enjoyed right after brewing.

Paper Filter
Coffee:
20g
Coarser side of Espresso (8 clicks on Timemore C3)
Specialty dark roast / Store-bought medium
Water:
99°C / 210°F
45-50mL
Equipment:
- Grind your 20g of beans, set water to boil. Assemble your Aeropress with Prismo, placing two wet paper filters on top of the Prismo metal mesh.
- As the water is coming to a boil, dispense your grounds into the Aeropress, and start the timer when the water is ready.
- Take the first 30sec pouring the water up to (1) mark, try to wet all the grounds.
- Spend the next minute stirring with the Aeropress paddle. Not too aggressive.
- Let it sit for the last minute. Once the timer is out, briefly stir once with the paddle.
- Place the plunger on top and press very hard, until everything is out.
- Voila! Enjoy your coffee! It even has crema!
